Case Study

Bringing managed and cloud services to underserved markets in the Southeast

Since closing, TekLinks has experienced strong growth, enhanced the robustness of its data center infrastructure, and invested heavily in broadening its managed and cloud services offering

Founded in 2001, TekLinks Inc. is a leading provider of complex technology solutions and managed and cloud services to businesses throughout Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.  Through three SSAE 16 Type-II audited data centers, TekLinks offers a robust suite of cloud and managed services, ranging from Desktop as a Service (DaaS) to telecom services to complete cloud-based virtual computing. These services, in conjunction with TekLinks’ staff of experienced IT engineers, help businesses focus on their core operations while utilizing technology to mitigate risks, strengthen their processes, and increase their bottom line.

Pamlico has significant experience with data center driven managed services and had pursued a theme around tech-enabled communication/IT services businesses for over two years before being introduced to TekLinks. Pamlico acquired the company in 2012 from its original founder, Stuart Raburn, and an investor group with Mr. Raburn agreeing to join the company’s board going forward.  In conjunction with the transaction, Pamlico recruited a new CEO, Jim Akerhielm, a proven executive with over 20 years of experience in the communications and technology services industry, including CEO roles with two very successful prior Pamlico portfolio companies.

Since closing, TekLinks has experienced strong growth, enhanced the robustness of its data center infrastructure, and invested heavily in broadening its managed and cloud services offering. Growth has come both organically, through expansion of the sales force, as well as through a strategic acquisition initiative. The Company brought on a highly experienced CFO shortly after close and has invested in its back-office, financial reporting, and operational capabilities, including the implementation of a new ERP system.  As evidence of the strong acceptance of its unique hybrid business model, TekLinks was recognized in 2013 in CRN’s list of top technology companies, the Tech Elite 250, and as one of the top 100 cloud services providers by Talkin’ Cloud, and has been named to the Inc. 5000 Ranking of Fastest Growing Companies each of the last few years.

TekLinks remains a current Pamlico portfolio company, and we are actively working with Jim Akerhielm and the team to identify acquisition opportunities in the cloud and managed services space.
